McMenamin's Old St. Francis Hotel, Pub & Theatre
Bend is a rapidly growing city in Central Oregon, known primarily for its recreational pursuits and 300 days of sunshine per year. Situated at 3500 feet above sea level, the city is 25 minutes away from excellent skiing and snowboarding at Mt. Bachelor. The Deschutes River runs through downtown, offering lazy spots on which to read a book or picnic, and plenty of trails over which athletes can bike, run or walk. Fishing is a popular sport, as well. With the recent influx of residents and the high tourism draw to the region, Bend has many fine dining venues and hotels. One of the most unique experiences is found at the McMenamin's St. Francis Hotel, downtown on Bond Street. The colorful building was originally a Catholic school in 1936. After renovations in the early 2000s, the classrooms were converted into hotel rooms! 19 rooms are available, plus four "guest cottages" that can hold as many as 10 people each. McMenamin's also has a popular restauarant and pub (handcrafted beers are very tasty), as well as an on-site bakery. One of the best features for families with young children is the movie theatre, which shows second-run films at the cost of $1 per child ($2 per adult). Seating is on large oversized sofas and wing chairs. You can order pizza, french fries, and enjoy your favorite beverages - including wine, beer or mixed drinks (over 21 only, of course!) The theatre also runs special events such as the Super Bowl, and the Rose Bowl. Conference rooms are available for rent, if you desire to have a reception or party at McMenamin's. In addition, during summer months, there is lots of room on the patio. As Bend residents, we enjoy going often!
